Why am I running?
We have many issues facing Onondaga County, and we seem to have lost the “checks and balances” the Legislature should be.
Having worked for the County, and seeing how our government functions, it gave me an inside perspective.
With that perspective I decided to become actively involved in the union, seeing there were many things going on at the same time. Things that were affecting County employees, as well as the local Community.
During my involvement with the union I was actively involved in many capacities, represented hundreds of members, was involved in organizing and political campaigns, sat on a statewide panel at convention, and gained immense knowledge into the functions of Onondaga County government.
There were numerous times that myself and others raised serious concerns, and engaged other avenues to help in the process of protecting members. That included involving other agencies and entities, like the media.*
Without voices from the community to drive decision making, such as the Aquarium, we are allowing unchecked power to one person. We have seen how that can affect us.
We can do more when we focus locally.
This is easier to achieve when residents know who represents them, what level of government controls what services, who to contact when needed, and feel like they are a part of the process. Not just part of a system.
Educating the public on how to ensure their voices are heard, and making the process easier, is something I will focus on as County Legislator. Residents should be part of our decision making processes.
Onondaga County deserves better, and we can get there with the right representation, and the power of community.
Vote for me!
Tammy Honeywell, for County Legislature in District 8.
Let’s build community, not an aquarium!
