Tammy Honeywell

Progressive Democrat

I am a public servant, labor leader, activist, and democratic socialist who is running for County Legislature in the 8th District.

I understand that the poverty, lead poisoning, and affordable housing crisis facing our community stems from a system which has prioritized profits over people for too long. I will stand up against interests that are crushing the working class, and won't take a penny from corporate donors.

I'll invest in Onondaga County's real needs like social services, affordable public housing, improved public transit, union labor, disability access, public health, and more to ensure that everyone in our community can thrive.

Building Community and Class Solidarity

Class solidarity is important, and ensuring that both the working class, and the poor work together is essential for Syracuse and Onondaga County to thrive. We can recognize the needs of both, and address the root causes of our issues.

Supporting labor gives the working class living wage jobs, and protects their right to collective bargaining. A strong working class is vital to a community.

Seeing local labor wins on projects like i81 is a huge organizing success of local activists and organizations working together and addressing the intersecting issues for Syracuse.

We have many people and organizations doing the work of attempting to help people gain access to resources, and fill the gaps of where the system does not address issues.

We can get farther when we listen to the voices of people with lived experience from all walks of life.

We should encourage and appreciate the diversity within our County. The city of Syracuse holds home to many different cultures and cuisines, which is a great way to build community.

We are stronger together. While the rich are using their wealth and power to try and silence us, we have people power.

The status quo is not good enough, and it’s time for government to be representative of the people, and not political dynasties.

We’ve given tax breaks to developers who have failed us. We need to invest in the people of Onondaga County.

No more legacy projects!!!

We live in a Global world. We are all connected in different ways, and even issues that may seem distant, have impacts on those living in Syracuse and Onondaga County.

We have seen too many tragedies across the globe, as well as an escalation of targeted attacks based on one’s identity.

Embracing our differences can go a long way to help unlearn the things we have been taught about each other, and realize we are all feeling our own struggles and living under the same system. Acknowledging the effects for everyone is different.
